Since the series is about growing up and the teen years, it should have dealt with the problems and joys of being that age. They had a few involving sex: Karen, Wayne, and Paul, and that Kevin boasted about sex with Winnie when it didn't happen and paying the price. There was only one about drugs that I remember, "Christmas Party", and its implications were just that marijuana is not tolerated. It would have been good to see some where the lead characters are at least tempted to try some forbidden substances: drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, and how they handle the pressure.
