Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU)


The "Black Ivy League" (also known as the "Elite Eight")

These colleges are the oldest and most prestigious of the
historically black colleges and universities.


The following HBCUs are land grant institutions under the 1890 Second Morrill (Land Grant) Act, which required states not discriminate on the basis of race in their land grant colleges, or else establish separate colleges for black students. This is a list of those (formerly) separate institutions.


The following community colleges are HBCUs.
